MILAN (Thomson Financial) - The Italian government may announce which bidders it will admit to the final phase of the privatisation of the troubled flagship carrier Alitalia SpA this weekend, daily La Repubblica said in an unsourced report.

The final bidders will be given access to Alitalia's accounts and will have to submit binding offers and defined business plans, the paper said.

On Sunday, an unsourced report in Il Sole 24 Ore said the government was expected to admit all three consortia bidding for Alitalia with binding offers to be submitted by the beginning of June.

The three bidders are a consortium of Texas Pacific, Matlin Patterson, and Mediobanca SpA; AP Holding SpA, the owner of Italy's Air One airline, which is reportedly backed by Intesa Sanpaolo SpA; and Unicredito Italiano SpA and Russian airline Aeroflot.

La Repubblica added there is speculation that two consortia are having informal talks to see whether there are 'common points of interest'.

The bidders must submit offers for at least 39.9 pct of the airline.
