Australia's budget increases skilled migration by 5,000 this year |

SYDNEY (XFN-ASIA) - The federal budget has provided for the recruitment of an extra 5,000 permanent skilled workers into the country this year, a five pct boost, taking the total to 102,500.But skilled workers will have to meet higher English language standards under new laws which come into force in September.Migrants with professional, technical or managerial skills will be required to achieve a score of six, or competent English, on the International English Testing System. Previously the acceptable level was five.Australia's unemployment rate fell to a 30-year low of 4.5 pct in March.afp
