BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Six US producers of welded standard steel pipes and the United Steelworkers (USW) filed petitions with the US Department of Commerce and the US International Trade Commission alleging imports of such pipes from China into the US are being dumped, with subsidies for their production provided by the Chinese government.

The petitioners, in a joint statement, said they want duties imposed on the imported Chinese pipes to offset the dumping prices and the government subsidies.

The petitioners also alleged that Chinese imports of circular standard and structural pipes increased to 690,000 tons in 2006 from 10,000 tons in 2002, a 6,800 pct increase, leading to the loss of over 500 jobs in the US.

The petitioners include Allied Tube & Conduit; IPSCO Tubulars Inc; Northwest Pipe Co; Sharon Tube Co; Western Tube & Conduit Corp and Wheatland Tube Co, as well as the steelworkers union.
