Canada April trade surplus 5.8 bln cad, up 13 pct

OTTAWA (Thomson Financial) - Canada's surplus in international merchandise

trade grew by 13 pct to 5.8 bln cad in April from a revised 5.1 bln in March, as

imports declined while there was little change in exports, Statistics Canada

said.

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - The Basel Economics Institute (BAK) said it

expects Swiss GDP growth of 2.5 pct this year, raising its previous forecast of

2.1 pct, citing dynamic trading conditions between Swiss and European markets,

as well as a strong economy in Germany.
