JERUSALEM (Thomson Financial) - A rocket was fired into northern Israel across the border from Lebanon overnight, police said on Tuesday, in the first such incident since June 2007.'A 122mm Katyusha was fired overnight into northern Israel,' Avi Edri, a spokesman for the Israeli northern district police told Agence France-Presse.National police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirmed the report, saying a Katyusha was 'fired into northern Israel last night from Lebanon. Sappers have examined it on site.'The army had earlier said that an old rocket apparently fired during the 2006 war between Israel and Lebanona's Hezbollah militia had exploded near the border town of Shlomi. The incident comes shortly before US President George W Bush begins a tour of the Middle East, arriving in Israel on Wednesday.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comafp/hjpCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
