Forex - Pound gains on strong Halifax house price survey |

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - The pound got a boost from a surprisingly strong house price survey from the Halifax.The Halifax reported UK house prices rose 1.3 pct in December from the previous month, confounding expectations for a drop of 0.5 pct following three previous monthly declines.At 0806 GMT, sterling was trading at around 1.9800 to the dollar, up from 1.9775 just before the data.The euro weakened against the pound to around 0.7422 stg from around 0.7440 stg.alex.brittain@thomson.comabr/ms1COPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
