AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AFX) - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group plans to cut about 1,000 salaried jobs, primarily in Michigan, as part of a restructuring plan scheduled to be announced next week, according to a newspaper report Friday.

The cuts would represent about 7 percent of Chrysler's U.S. white-collar work force of about 14,180 employees, The Detroit News reported, citing people who it didnt' name other than to say they were familiar with the plan.

Chrysler spokesman Kevin Frazier declined to comment on the report, saying that the plan would be announced Wednesday. That is the same day DaimlerChrysler is scheduled to report its 2006 earnings.

The newspaper said the cuts would be in addition to at least 10,000 hourly jobs from Chrysler's about 60,000 unionized jobs likely to be cut as part of the plan, which it previously reported about Monday.

The News said Chrysler plans to offer unionized workers a cash payment of $50,000 or more, plus a voucher that can be put toward the purchase of a Chrysler vehicle. It said plants in Newark, Del., and Detroit were expected to close.

DaimlerChrysler's U.S. shares rose $1.83, or 2.9 percent, to $64.58 in midday trading Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.
