FRANKFURT - German charter airline LTU said it is in talks over operating Air Madrid's South American routes, but reiterated that a takeover of the Spanish no-frills carrier is not planned.LTU chief Juergen Marbach said his company is in 'intensive talks' with investors and authorities in Spain about plans to set up a new company that could take on Air Madrid's South American routes in the short term. But 'a takeover of Air Madrid by LTU is still out of the question', Marbach said in a statement.Earlier, Spain's Public Works Ministry said it is 'closing a deal' forLTU to take over Air Madrid's routes and the majority of its workforce.A ministry spokeswoman said the agreement is nearly finalised, but declinedto confirm details.Air Madrid filed for bankruptcy in December after abruptly suspendingoperations shortly before the Spanish government was set to revoke the airline'slicence because of safety breaches.newsdesk@afxnews.comjfb/lamCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
