(Adds that Merkel 'hopeful' of deal)BRUSSELS (AFX) - The EU's German presidency is maintaining its proposed binding target for 20 pct of the bloc's energy to come from renewable sources by 2020, according to a draft copy of a summit text obtained by deutsche presse-agentur.German chancellor Angela Merkel said on her way into the EU summit here that the text is 'a breakthrough as regards energy policy and climate policy' in the EU.'I'm hopeful that it will be adopted,' Merkel said.simon.zekaria@thomson.comjms/vm/jfrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
