Sarkozy set to win French presidency with 52 pct of vote - poll |

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - The ruling centre-right UMP party's candidate, interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy, would win the second round of the French presidential election with 52 pct of the vote should he make it through, according to an opinion poll by LH2 for RMC-BFM TV-20 Minutes.This is a rise of one percentage point from the previous LH2 poll.The survey puts centre-left PS candidate Segolene Royal in second place with 48 pct support, down 1 percentage point.No fewer than 27 pct of voters said they had not decided which of the two to choose.In the first round of the election, Sarkozy would have 28 pct of votes, a fall of one percentage point since the last LH2 poll; Royal loses two points to 24 pct; centre-right UDF candidate Francois Bayrou stays at 18 pct and far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen gains 2 percentage points to 15 pct.The number of undecided voters for the first round falls six percentage points to 47 pct.The poll was carried out by telephone on April 6 and 7 among 1,009 people aged 18 and over.The first round of the election will take place on April 22 with the second round run-off two weeks later on May 6.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comafp/jsa/vlbCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
