TOKYO: Japanese electronics major Sony Corporation will showcase its long-awaited PlayStation 3 at the Taipei Game Show 16-20 February.
This will be the first time Sony will display the full game console, prior to the official worldwide launch of the unit, according to news reports. The company had demonstrated non-workable prototypes in the U.S. and Japan sometime back. Game watchers are hopeful they will be able to actually play with the console at the show.
According to the Taipei show organisers, Sony will have some 80 booths and 20 booths will be exclusively devoted to PS3.
Sony is apparently aiming at Microsoft, which is scheduled to launch its Xbox 360 in Taiwan, starting 16 March. Microsoft has announced a price cut for the gadget when it goes on sale in Taiwan, while it is also planning to market a total 19 game titles, instead of the earlier announced 15 titles.
According to game watchers, when Sony unveiled the PS3 at the Electronics Entertainment Expo last year, it had announced a number of games, which were under development, including a new Killzone and Tekken titles. However, at the Tokyo Game Show 2005, the titles on listing were totally different. These included Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It is not known whether there will be another change of mind at Taipei.
The Taipei show is the largest game show in the region and is expected to attract some 100,000 people.
