LAS VEGAS - Warner Brothers film studios has unveiled a dual-format, high-density DVD it claims will erase concerns about competing formats for playing high definition DVDs.Two rival formats, Blu-ray and HD DVD, have been vying to become the leader in the new market.'This was a problem desperately in need of a solution...We are here to introduce the Total High Definition (THD) disks as a solution; one we hope colleagues and competitors alike will embrace,' Warner chief executive Barry Meyer told a press conference at the Las Vegas electronics show.Warner said films should be available in both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats in the second half of the year. The company declined to discuss pricing, but said the disks would not cost much more than those already on the market.High-definition disks provide graphics six times more realistic than traditional DVDs, according to Kevin Tsujihara of Sony Home Entertainment. The rivalry between Blu-ray and HD DVD formats for the future of the market has caused 'confusion and rivalry' that has kept buyers of high definition disks at bay, Meyers said.afp
