Paccar to build $400M plant |

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AFX) - Paccar Inc., a maker of Peterbilt and Kenworth commercial trucks, on Wednesday said it plans to build a $400 million engine and transmission manufacturing and assembly plant in the southeastern U.S.Paccar, which also builds DAF model trucks, said the facility will meet strong demand for all three of its brands. The company did not disclose the proposed site.Construction of the powertrain facility is slated to begin in mid-2007 and be complete in 2009. 'Powertrain' includes the engine, transmission, axle and related parts of a vehicle.The new plant and technology center 'strengthens PACCAR's global manufacturing and assembly capability and positions PACCAR to capitalize on growing opportunities in North America, Europe and Asia,' said Mark Pigott, chairman and chief executive in a statement.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
