PHOENIX (AFX) - Regional airline Mesa Air Group Inc. on Wednesday said December traffic rose 2.5 percent, despite inclement weather conditions in the east of the country.Revenue passenger miles grew to 576.9 million from 563 million last year. One revenue passenger mile equals one paying passenger flown one mile.Capacity rose 1 percent to 794.1 million available seat miles in December, from 786.6 million a year ago.Load factor, or the number of passengers carried as a proportion of available seats, rose to 72.7 percent from 71.6 percent a year ago.The carrier boarded 1.3 million passengers in December, up 11.7 percent from 1.2 million in the year-ago period.Mesa Air Chairman and Chief Executive Jonathan Ornstein said the improvements came despite inclement weather conditions in the east of the country during the month.For the year to date, Mesa Air said traffic rose 7 percent to 6.89 billion miles, capacity grew 1.8 percent to 9.16 billion seat miles, and load factor increased to 75.3 percent from 71.6 percent.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
