CanWest in talks with Alliance Atlantis

NEW YORK (AFX) - Canadian media company CanWest Global Communications Corp. said Wednesday that it is in exclusive talks to buy Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.

CanWest and private equity firm Goldman Sachs Capital Partners are in discussions with Alliance and its controlling shareholder Southhill Strategy Inc., which is owned by Alliance's executive chairman, Michael MacMillan, and Seaton McLean.

Alliance owns cable television specialty channels including Showcase, Life, Food and History TV.
