ATLANTA (AFX) - CryoLife Inc., a medical device and tissue processing company, said Wednesday it is collaborating with the Cleveland Clinic to develop a human tissue heart valve for patients suffering serious heart infections.Financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed. Under the agreement, the company will help develop a combination aortic-mitral allograft heart valve for patients with infective endocarditis, a condition in which the heart valves are infected, CryoLife said.Cleveland Clinic cardiac surgeon Dr. Jose Navia will work with CryoLife to develop the methods necessary to process the valve.Shares of CryoLife added 34 cents, or 4.8 percent, to $7.44 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
