LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Department store chain Dillard's Inc. said Thursday its same-store sales, or sales open at least a year, fell 14 percent in April, hurt by the calendar shift of the Easter holiday to March.Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had expected a decline of 4.3 percent.Same-store sales is a key measure of retailer performance, because it measures growth at existing stores rather than from newly opened ones.Total sales for the month fell 13 percent to $490.4 million from $562.3 million.Dillard's said its western stores performed above average trends for the period, while stores in the eastern and central regions were below average sales trends.Same-store sales for the 13 weeks ended May 5 declined 5 percent.Total sales for the period fell 4 percent to $1.76 billion from 1.84 billion in the 13 weeks ended April 29, 2006.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
