The charity Age Concern is concerned that the average pensioner will lose £470 annually, as the government has claimed that £2.9 billion of benefits remain unused every year.
Age Concern also added that the council tax bill is not providing full entitlement of assistance to more than 1.8 million pensioners.
| The announcement comes at a time when Age Concern is starting its annual Your Rights Week that raises awareness among pensioners regarding their entitlements.
But this year’s focus of the Youth Rights Week will be the state pension, as the basic rate has increased from £79.60 to £82.05 for a single pension and £127.25 to £131.20 for a double.
The Age Concern said though the system seems to be discouraging but it is worth making a claim.
It said the campaign has certainly helped older people to receive extra benefits and have brought about quality changes their lives.
