LONDON - Mobile phone operator Vodafone is to announce a deal with BT Group that will enable its mobile phone customers to receive high-speed Internet connections at home. The deal will only serve to intensify the competition in UK's already tough Internet access market.

Vodafone said the deal would see it offering combined fixed-line, broadband and mobile products to its customers before the end of the year. "This partnership enables Vodafone's customers to benefit from bundled packages of mobile and broadband services nationwide, due to BT's unique footprint in the UK," Vodafone said in a statement.

Till date, Vodafone was offering standalone mobile services. However the entry of rivals like O2 into the broadband access market has triggered off Vodafone's entry as well. The world's biggest mobile phone operator by sales said in May that it was aiming to secure overall 10 percent revenues from the "Mobile Zone" businesses over the next three years.

“Choosing BT as our partner enables us to provide high quality fixed-line broadband services to customers quickly and cost-efficiently right across the UK, and this perfectly complements our national mobile coverage and mobile broadband service," said Nick Read, chief executive of Vodafone UK.

Other mobile operators like Orange, NTL and Carphone Warehouse are also bundling telecoms as well as broadband packages into one single business in order to get a larger market share.
