KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - Malaysian shares are expected to open lower Tuesday after Wall Street ended mixed overnight, with investors increasingly wary the Fed might not lower its funds rate by as much as 50 basis points when it meets on September 18.

'The market will remain volatile and investors will still look to the US for direction,' TA Securities head of research Kaladher Govindan said.

Shares of palm oil producers could come under the spotlight after the Malaysian Palm Oil Board said Monday crude palm oil production increased by 14.8 percent in August to 1.558 million metric tons from the preceding month.

Total stock of crude palm oil rose 25.3 percent to 723,205 metric tons from 577,139 metric tons in July.

Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) closed down 14.20 points or 1.1 percent at 1,290.70.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia 30-large cap index fell 85.74 points or 1 percent to 8,180.43 and the second board index dropped 1.37 points or 1.3 percent to 105.65.
