LISBON (Thomson Financial) - Sonae SGPS's 50 pct owned Sonae Sierra commercial real estate arm will tomorrow open a 290 mln eur shopping centre in Berlin's Alexander Platz, Diario de Noticias reported, without citing a source.

According to the newspaper, Sonae Sierra and French real estate company Fonciere Euris built the Alexa shopping centre in 'a record three years', at one of Berlin's historical sites.

Alongside shops and restaurant areas, the shopping centre will have an area for interactive learning for children, and a miniature re-creation of

Berlin, Diario de Noticias added.

The newspaper also highlighted that Alexa is Germany's first 'ecological shopping centre' after passing several stringent environmental conditions during the construction stage, and after its owners committed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 10 pct per square metre by 2010.

Sonae Sierra owns 44 shopping centres worldwide, with over 1.6 mln square metres of gross lettable area.
