TOKYO (AFX) - China is considering giving several endangered wild crested ibises to Japan as a modern day equivalent of doves of peace, amid signs of a diplomatic thaw.Talks are under way for China to give its neighbour a few wild crested ibises as part of efforts to save the species from extinction, said an official at Japan's environment ministry. The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe were expected to announce the gift when they meet on Sunday on the sidelines of an Asian summit in the Philippines.Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki told reporters he was not aware of any such agreement. But he added, 'It is very desirable that Japan and China can cooperate on the Japanese crested ibis which has been pushed to the brink of extinction.'newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/twCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
