German court softens sentences for Ex-Thyssen managers in Saudi tank bribe case |

BERLIN (AFX) - Germany's federal court of justice has sentenced two former managers of the Thyssen group to suspended sentences for taking bribes during the sale of tanks to Saudi Arabia, softening the punishments ordered by earlier court rulings and bringing an end to an 11-year legal saga.Juergen Massmann and Winfried Haastert received suspended prison sentences of 24 months and 20 months respectively.Massmann and Haastert were found guilty of taking bribes from arms merchant Karlheinz Schreiber on the sale of 36 Fuchs armoured vehicles to Saudi Arabia.
