PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Internet access provider Free, a unit of Iliad, has lost its attempt to annul the bidding process for France's fourth UMTS licence, French daily Les Echos reported without citing sources.Free had requested that the government be forced to review the price of the licence, currently 619 mln eur, and organise a new call for tenders. The French State Council yesterday rejected the demand, noting that the price of the licence cannot be criticised since it has not been formally fixed, Les Echos said.Last week, Les Echos cited comments from Free's chief financial officer, Olivier Rosenfeld, saying the group was considering bidding for the fourth UMTS licence. However, it said the group was in discussions with the government over the terms of the licence, and notably wanted to stagger the payment of the 619 mln eur fee.The deadline for the submission of offers for France's fourth UMTS licence is July 31.vicky.buffery@thomson.comvb/bsdCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
