TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japan's largest mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo Inc said it will help AT&T build a third-generation (3G) mobile phone network in Hawaii.NTT DoCoMo said it will provide technical assistance and financial support of up to 24 million dollars for the 3G project, which will be undertaken by a wireless unit of AT&T.AT&T plans to build a 3G network based on W-CDMA technology on the Hawaiian island of Oahu by the end of 2007, and expand the coverage to the rest of the state by early 2008, NTT DoCoMo said.NTT DoCoMo said it will also handle the 3G requirements of customers travelling to Hawaii, which is a popular destination of Japanese tourists.The Japanese company aims to promote international roaming services between Japan and the US.(1 US dollar =122.00 yen)kaori.kaneko@thomson.comkk/zrkk/zrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
