U.S. air travel demand rose in April |

WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of passengers flying on U.S. airlines rose in April the seventh straight month, compared with year ago levels, according to a government tally released Thursday.The Transportation Department's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said U.S. airlines carried 64.9 million domestic and international passengers in April, up 2.7 percent from the same month last year.Southwest Airlines Co., which does not have international routes, carried about 8.4 million total passengers in April, the most of any airline. The No. 2 carrier, AMR Corp's American Airlines, carried 8.2 million domestic and international passengers.Rounding out the top five were Delta Air Lines Inc., UAL Corp.'s United Airlines and Northwest Airlines Corp.Shares of Southwest fell 2 cents to $15.53 in midday trading, while shares of AMR fell 7 cents to $27.55.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
