BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China sold 71.478 mln sets of domestic mobile phones worth 84.58 bln yuan in the first half of 2007, representing growth of 5.5 pct and 25.5 pct, respectively, CCID Consulting said in a research report.

The China-based research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider said the market continued to grow while the average price of mobile phones dropped steadily.

It added that foreign-branded mobile phones have driven up sales of low-end products and bundled mobile phones, while continuing to dominate the high-end product market.

In the first half, Nokia, Motorola and Samsung accounted for a total market share of 61.4 pct.

CCID noted that foreign brands are focusing on increasing market share by improving the sales volume of their low-end products. It said that in the first half, Nokia and Motorola occupied a share of 57 pct in the 500-700 yuan mobile phone market and 70 pct in the less-than-500 yuan market.

The consulting group said that domestic mobile brands must increase their market share through the development of multi-functional handsets such as mobile phone TVs and global positioning systems, by developing Chinese-specific handwriting mobile phones for high-end users and by developing low-end mobile phones for rural users.
