MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Banca Carige chairman Giovanni Berneschi said the bank will launch a 'particularly significant' capital increase to finance the acquisition of 78 branches from Intesa Sanpaolo SpA for 996 mln eur.In an interview with the daily MF, Berneschi said the recapitalisation will be completed by the end of the year and he expects that the group's key shareholders will subscribe.Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Genova has a 44.13 pct stake in the bank, CNCE 14.56 pct and Assicurazioni Generali SpA 2.11 pct.MF added that the size of the capital increase could be close to the cost of purchasing the branches.philip.webster@thomson.compw/jfrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
