STOCKHOLM (AFX) - LM Ericsson AB said it has acquired the US fiber access technology firm Entrisphere, in order to strengthen its fixed broadband access portfolio and its position in converged networks.The purchase price was not disclosed.Ericsson said fiber technology is essential for High Definition IPTV and other IP-based services with a high demand on bandwidth and cost efficiency.'Entrisphere has a well proven and competitive product portfolio, ready for large scale deployment,' Ericsson said.'The addressable market for IPTV services is as big as the fixed-broadband market -- which, in another five years, will be approaching 600 mln access lines,' it added.Entrisphere was founded in 2000 in Santa Clara and has about 140 employees.TF.TFN-EuropeStockholm@thomson.comhc/jsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
