WASHINGTON (AFX) - The US posted a record monthly budget deficit in February, though the deficit for the first five months of the fiscal year was sharply down from the same period a year ago, the Treasury Department said today.The government posted a record budget deficit of 120 bln usd in February, compared to expectations of a 121 bln usd monthly deficit and last year's 119.2 bln usd deficit.Receipts in February totaled a record high of 120.3 bln usd, up from last year's 112.9 bln usd, while outlays totaled a record 240.3 bln usd, higher than last year's 232.1 bln usd.Through the first five months of the budget year, the deficit was 162.2 bln usd, 25.5 pct lower than the 217.7 bln usd posted in the first five months of the prior fiscal year.
