LONDON (AFX) - Hinduja Group, the Indian-owned conglomerate, is considering buying part of a controlling stake in Telecom Italia SpA, the Financial Times reported in an unsourced report on its website.Hinduja is not engaged in direct discussions with Pirelli -- the Italian tyre and real estate group which controls the biggest Telecom Italia shareholder, holding company Olimpia -- but people close to the companies involved said there had been consultations and Hinduja was studying the viability of a deal.Hinduja, whose interest is, for now, preliminary, joins the many groups that have been taking a look at TI, Italy's dominant telecoms operator. Blackstone, the private equity group, said in November that it might be interested in taking a stake.Hinduja, which is privately-owned, would not comment. Pirelli said there had been no contact with the Indian group, the report said.newsdesk@afxnews.comlamCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
