NEW YORK (AFX) - Stantec Inc., which offers design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying and project management, said Friday it signed a letter of intent to buy Vollmer Associates LLP.The Edmonton, Alberta-based company did not how much it expects to pay.Stantec President and Chief Executive Tony Franceschini said in a statement that the acquisition 'will significantly increase the size of our transportation practice, enhance our service offering in transportation particularly in specialized areas such as toll roads and major transit systems and add critical mass to our U.S. East operations with a major presence in New York City.'The deal is expected to close in April.Vollmer provides engineering, architecture, planning, landscape architecture and survey services with emphasis on the transportation sector.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
