SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AFX) - Magma Design Automation Inc. said Friday the Patent and Trademark Office has agreed to re-examine the third and final patent at issue in a lawsuit between the semiconductor design software maker and larger rival Synopsis Inc.The company said the office found substantial new questions over all 54 of the patent's claims and ordered the reexamination on Jan. 10. According to Magma, the office has already ordered reexamination of the other two patents at issue.The three patents are the subject of a federal lawsuit filed by Mountain View, Calif.-based Synopsis in 2004, claiming patent infringement by Magma.A Synopsis representative could not immediately be reached for comment.Shares of Magma added 16 cents to $8.92 in afternoon trading.
