WASHINGTON (AP) - An index of freight and passenger transportation activity declined in February from the previous month, the Transportation Department said Wednesday.The department's Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that its Transportation Services Index fell 0.3 percent in February, to 109.2. The index declined 0.2 percent from its February 2006 reading of 109.4.The February decline is the sixth monthly decline in the last nine months, the agency said. The index is down 0.8 percent in the first two months of this year.The index measures changes in the output of services by the railroad, air, truck and local transit industries.
