TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Cellular phone giant NTT DoCoMo Inc said Thursday that it will introduce a flat-rate service on its data communication service, in a bid to win new subscribers for its high-speed non-voice service amid stiff competition with rival carriers.Under the new flat-rate service plan that will take effect on October 22, users can browse the Internet via the 3.6Mbps speed-compatible mobile network round-the-clock at a maximum cost of 11,340 yen per month, including tax.NTT DoCoMo will also offer a flat rate service for low-end 64Kbps data access at 4,725 yen per month, including tax.The cellular phone giant did not give an estimate on the impact of the introduction of the flat rate service on its revenue. The decision came after the company in September lowered basic fees for family calling plans by 50 percent to match discount rates announced earlier by KDDI Corp.(1 US dollar=114.48 yen)Yasuhiko.Seki@thomson.comys/cl-yas/clCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
