LONDON (AFX) - Online recruitment in Europe rose during February after a seasonal dip in January, with demand for workers particularly strong in France, Sweden and the UK, a survey showed. The Monster Employment Index for Europe rose to 129 in February from 122 in January, in line with the usual pick-up seen during the month, Monster said. The breakdown of the survey revealed a significant increase in recruitment in the banking, finance and insurance sectors, while production, manufacturing, maintenance and repair continued a four-month downward trend.Occupations showing reduced demand were predominantly blue-collar and included service, shop and market sales workers, for whom demand plunged 30 points to its lowest level since January 2005, Monster said.'The index has rebounded, as expected, from its customary January dip and is showing favourable growth year-on-year,' said Steve Pogorzelski, group president international at Monster Worldwide.'Across the EU, we are seeing high demand in the marketing and banking and finance sectors, while there is a concern in the slow down in opportunities for blue collar and service sector workers,' he said.Compared with a year ago, the index was 13 points higher. On a regional basis, online recruitment rose sharply in France, Sweden and the UK, dipped slightly in the Netherlands and was flat in Germany.jessica.mortimer@thomson.comjkm/slmCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
