MILAN (AFX) - The television company Mediaset SpA is studying the possibility of launching a counter-bid for the broadband supplier Fastweb SpA, for which Swisscom AG is offering 47 eur per share, according to newspaper reports. The newspaper Finanza & Mercati added that Mediaset could offer 50 eur per share for a total cost of 4 bln eur.Meanwhile, Il Sole 24 Ore said that Mediaset could offer shares in the deal, which would have the advantage of diluting its main shareholder Silvio Berlusconi and softening his conflict of interest.Berlusconi is a former prime minister and the head of the right-wing opposition. His family-owned holding company Fininvest controls 35.5 pct of Mediaset.Mediaset is holding a board meeting today.philip.webster@thomson.compw/sljCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
