FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Trade union ver.di is threatening further strike action next week, if negotiations with Deutsche Telekom AG over plans to outsource 50,000 workers break down, said a union spokesman in Bonn.Around 8,000 Deutsche Telekom workers yesterday took part in a one-day nationwide warning strike, in protest against the telecommunications giant's plans.'The number of people striking demonstrates that the workers are behind the union and its demands for employee protection and security,' said union official Lothar Schroeder.A further warning strike could be launched as early as next week, 'if Telekom refuses to negotiate over protection for outsourced workers,' said a union spokesman.Negotiations are to resume on Monday, after a third attempt to reach an agreement yesterday failed.Deutsche Telekom also wants to extend working hours at its call centres and decrease entry-level wages to about 20,000 eur a year from between 30,000 eur and 34,000 eur a year now.krysia.diver@thomson.comkd/rfwCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
