BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Retail sales in July rose 16.4 pct year-on-year to 699.8 bln yuan, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement.In June, retail sales rose 16 pct year-on-year to 702.6 bln yuan. Retail sales in the first half were up 15.4 pct at 4.204 trln yuan.In the first seven months to July, retail sales increased 15.5 pct from a year earlier to 4.904 trln yuan, the NBS added.Urban retail sales in July rose 16.7 pct year-on-year to 476.2 bln yuan, while rural retail sales were up 15.8 pct at 223.6 bln yuan.Combined sales for the wholesale and retail sectors rose 16.5 pct from a year earlier to 592.4 bln yuan. Sales by the catering sector in July were up 18 pct at 92.3 bln yuan.Telecommunication equipment sales in July rose 6.1 pct from a year earlier, auto sales rose 42.7 pct and sales of oil and related products were up 16.3 pct.Clothing sales rose 24.9 pct, sales of daily consumer goods were up 25.4 pct, sales of household appliances increased 18 pct, and sales of grain and edible oils surged 45.2 pct year-on-year.Sales of meat, poultry and eggs were up 51.4 pct in July.(1 usd = 7.57 yuan)susan.wang@xfn.comzw/sw/net-xfaws/xfnntCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
