BioXell says Phase IIb study of prostate drug Elocalcitol shows positive results |

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Italian drug firm BioXell SpA said its Phase IIb trials of Elocalcitol have shown that the drug is effective in slowing prostate growth and alleviating adverse urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).The trial involved 514 patients with BPH, and found that the change in prostate volume was 0.41 pct in those who received Elocalcitol treatment, and 2.55 pct for those who received placebo.BioXell, a spin-out company from Swiss pharma giant Roche Holding AG, said more detailed results from the study will be released on Oct 17 during its R&D day.huimin.neo@thomson.comat/hmn/akCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
