COLOGNE (Thomson Financial) - German economy minister Michael Glos rejected reports that German food prices have drastically risen and called for 'sobriety and objectivity' in discussions over the price of food.

Recent German media reports said the price of bread and dairy products jumped due to rising raw material prices. But consumer food prices rose only 2.2 pct in the first half of this year on higher energy and raw material costs.

The German food industry is 'overall doing well,' and the same applies to the German economy in general, Glos said at the opening ceremony of Anuga, the world's biggest food convention, yesterday.

After a positive third quarter, the government sees no reason to cut its full-year GDP growth forecast, Glos said.
