SOFIA (Thomson Financial) - Consumer prices in Bulgaria rose by 13.1 pct last month, largely as a result of rising food prices, official data showed on Friday.The National Statistical Institute calculated that the Bulgarian consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.3 pct in September from August and was 13.1 pct higher on an annual basis.Bulgaria therefore has the highest rate of inflation of all 27 EU member states.In August, Bulgarian inflation had stood at 12.0 pct. And since the beginning of the year, the accumulated inflation rate reached 8.9 pct.After keeping inflation at 6.5 pct at the end of 2006, Bulgaria's government admitted last month it will not be able to meet its target of 4.4 pct for the whole of 2007.A recent forecast of the International Monetary Fund put year-end inflation at 8.0 pct in 2007.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comafp/jagCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
