(AP) - VANCOUVER -- It will cost sports fans up to $775 a seat to watch the men's gold medal hockey game at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.Officials organizing the Games announced ticket prices Thursday, saying their goal is to make sure people in all income brackets can enjoy some Olympic events.Still, in-demand events will be pricey.Men's gold-medal hockey tickets start at $350, while tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies will range from $175 to $1,100. Tickets for the opening ceremonies at the 2008 Beijing Summer Games range from $26 to $650, but are selling online at several times their face value.'It's about much more than the ticket -- it's the entire Olympic experience that will likely not come our way in Canada for many years to come,' said John Furlong, chief executive office of the organizing committee known as VANOC.'It's about standing shoulder to shoulder and singing O Canada with fellow Canadians you have never met but with whom you are family for one incredible day.'For other Vancouver events, 100,000 tickets will be priced at $25, and half will cost $100 or less. VANOC also will buy 50,000 tickets to give to people who otherwise couldn't afford to attend.Tickets go on sale a year from now. The 2010 Winter Games will be held in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 12 to 28, 2010.Seventy percent of the available tickets will be for the public. About 1.6 million tickets will be available, and Furlong said VANOC's goal is to make sure every event is full.Vancouver organizers realize previous games had trouble filling seats at venues, even though the majority of tickets had been sold. So VANOC hopes to launch a ticket reselling service that would allow people who can't use their tickets to resell them -- at face value -- to potential buyers.Another option for the financially challenged: watch the games on TV. NBC has the broadcasting rights to the 2010 Games.Copyright 2007 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
