MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Moody's Investors Service assigned a 'Baa1' issuer default rating to Berkshire Gas Company, the smallest of Energy East Corp's (EEC) six regulated utility subsidiaries, and said the outlook for the company is negative.Moody's said smaller companies tend to have less capacity to cope with unexpected financial or operating difficulties that may occasionally arise. The negative outlook, which mirrors the negative outlook for its parent and all of EEC's other rated utility units, reflects the consolidated financial and operating challenges that exist within the EEC family, the ratings agency said.Moody's said the negative outlook also considers uncertainty surrounding the ultimate capital structure of EEC, and the extent to which its dividend demands on subsidiaries may be affected by the consummation of the proposed transaction.TFN.newsdesk@thomson.compvi/ans/ranCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
