RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Progress Energy Inc. said Friday it has named William D. Johnson as its new chairman, president and chief executive.He will replace Robert B. McGehee, who died suddenly this week during a business trip in London.The 53-year-old Johnson has been chief operating officer at the Raleigh-based electric utility, but the company's board says that position won't be filled. Johnson has been with Progress since 1992.Progress Energy operates utilities in North and South Carolina and Florida, serving more than 3 million customers.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
