OSLO (Thomson Financial) - Aker Exploration said it is to acquire a 12.5 pct ownership interest in licence PL283 in the Norwegian Sea, which includes the 'Stetind' discovery, from Chevron Norge.As payment for its stake, Aker Exploration said it will take responsibility for Chevron Norge's licence expenses for the remaining work obligations on the licence.'Drilling start-up of the second exploration well on PL283 is scheduled for first quarter 2008,' the firm said.In the autumn of 2005, gas and condensate were discovered in exploration well 6605/8-1 in the Stetind prospect, located northwest of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea.According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the discovery could potentially represent resources of some 180 mln boe.'Depending on the results of the second exploration well the licence plan may call for the drilling of a third exploration well,' the firm said.The other partners in the licence include operator StatoilHydro with 30 pct, Conoco Phillips Norge with 25 pct, and Petoro with 20 pct.alastair.reed@thomson.comar/rfwCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
