OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Food maker ConAgra Foods Inc. said Wednesday it has resumed producing Banquet and private label pot pies, a month after the products were recalled due to salmonella concerns. The company said shipments to retail customers are expected to begin in December and consumers can expect to see the pies in retail stores by January. The company recalled all pies produced at its Marshall, Mo., plant Oct. 11 after the products were linked to at least 174 cases of salmonella in 32 states.ConAgra Foods said initial findings of its own investigation into the contamination indicated that no traces of salmonella were found at the Marshall plant's pot pie production area. But the company also said that based on state findings from finished product testing and confirmed by ConAgra, the specific salmonella strain came from Banquet turkey pot pies produced on July 13 and July 31.The company said its investigation is continuing. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is also investigating the salmonella contamination.ConAgra said it expects to incur costs related to the recall of about 4 cents per share that will be recorded in its second quarter. But for the full 2008 fiscal year, the company said the costs will likely be offset by stronger-than-planned earnings from its trading and merchandising group.ConAgra shares rose 1 cent to close at $23.44.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
