Metro AG 2006 China sales 9.37 bln yuan, up 24 pct - report

SHANGHAI (XFN-ASIA) - German retailer Metro AG's sales in mainland China rose 24.1 pct to 9.37 bln yuan in 2006, state media reported.

The company opened six new stores in China during the year, bringing the total number of outlets to 33, the China Securities Journal reported, citing figures released by Metro China.

It will start building its largest store in China, covering 6.4 hectares, in Anhui Province in eastern China at the end of February, the official Xinhua news agency reported previously.

Metro earlier reported 2006 global sales of about 60 bln eur, up 7.5 pct.
