BANGKOK (XFN-ASIA) - Thai Airways and Airbus have agreed on a deal as compensation for the delivery delays of the European planemaker's A380 superjumbos, a local newspaper reported. The English-language Nation daily reported that under the agreement, the flag carrier will buy eight mid-sized Airbus A330s at a discounted price of 90 mln usd per plane.A senior Thai Airways official declined to confirm the report, which came as the airline's board was preparing to meet on the issue.Earlier, Airbus had offered discounts of 10 mln usd for each plane, with Thai Airways considering an order of up to 12 of the Airbus A330s. The new planes would be used primarily on regional routes. The Thai carrier ordered six of the A380s, with all now rescheduled for delivery in 2011 instead of 2009.Airbus apologized to Thai Airways for delivery delays but the flag carrier threatened to cancel its order if compensation and fines were not agreed.afp
