MILWAUKEE (AP) - Publishing and broadcasting company Journal Communications Inc. said Wednesday its December revenue rose 20.5 percent on new television operations and an extra week in the period.Sales for the month rose to $62.7 million versus $52.1 million a year ago.Monthly advertising revenue increased 19.8 percent to $52.4 million from $43.8 million in the year-ago period.The current period contained an additional week, which impacted total revenue by $9.2 million and ad sales by $7.5 million. Excluding the extra week, total revenue climbed 2.9 percent and ad sales grew 2.8 percent.Journal Communications said new television operations acquired in December 2005 and a $1.1 million reduction in the estimate of advertising credits to be issued in 2007 related to a lawsuit settlement helped results. Excluding the new television operations, revenue increased 16.3 percent, while ad sales gained 14.7 percent. Excluding the new television operations, the extra week and the revenue adjustment, total revenue dropped 3.1 percent and advertising revenue fell 4.4 percent.Revenue from the company's publishing segment, which includes its daily newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, community newspapers and shoppers operations, rose 16.3 percent to $37 million. Excluding the extra week and the $1.1 million from 'a positive litigation revenue reserve adjustment,' revenue slipped 4.6 percent.Advertising revenue at the Journal Sentinel grew 16.2 percent to $20.6 million. Excluding the extra week and the positive litigation revenue reserve adjustment, advertising revenue declined 7.7 percent.December revenue at radio and television stations in the company's broadcast segment climbed 27.1 percent to $25.7 million.
